Custom reports won't run

We are running CRM 2016 with the latest updates.

All of our out-of-box reports, such as the Account Overview or Sales History work just fine. But any custom report we create fails to run. They all throw an error with "Invalid User Authentication. The user authentication passed to the platform is not valid."

I've double-checked the permissions on SSRS, and our CRM service account appears to have the correct permissions set, and they are also a member of the PrivReportingGroup and SQLAccessGroup AD groups.

Does anyone have any ideas for why all the standard CRM reports would function just fine, but all custom reports would fail?

    Hello Joe,

To discover why that happens you have 2 places to check.

    1. CRM Log - support.microsoft.com/.../how-to-enable-tracing-in-microsoft-dynamics-crm

    2. Reporting Services log - technet.microsoft.com/.../cc512029.aspx

Wondering if you are using fetchxml reports or SQL reports for those custom reports?

If I try to create any basic report using the Report Wizard within CRM, I get our error.

Even if I'm just trying to display all of our Account Names. (single entity, single column)

    Andrii,

I'm looking through our logs, but nothing is jumping out yet. Thanks for the links.

So the error thrown within CRM is:

System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Microsoft Dynamics CRM has experienced an error. Reference number for administrators or support: #C6123F5B: System.Web.HttpUnhandledException (0x80004005): Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. ---> Microsoft.Crm.CrmException: An error occurred during report rendering. ReportId:{389D7185-2E3B-E711-80D0-005056944EDA} ---> Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportServerException: An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) ---> Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportServerException: Query execution failed for dataset 'DSMain'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) ---> ..

Everything I've read so far on the "Query execution failed for dataset 'DSMain', mentions a problem with either the filter or the result set returning data from other entities. But I can reproduce with no filter, and a single entity/field.

I've been able to reproduce this same error by creating another new CRM organization within deployment manager, adding a single account record, and trying to create a report through the report wizard to return that record.

    Any other ideas out there?

are you using crm on premise? if yes this might be a security issue, you have to setup the SPN records on the servers

First check your SSRS Log to know the exact error.Refer this:

    Thanks everyone for their suggestions!

It turned out to be a combination of things. I didn't have SPN's set for my CRM server, and I also needed to add a firewall rule to allow inbound TCP traffic on port 808.

The goldmine of a reference I found: www.cobalt.net/4-steps-that-will-help-you-conquer-the-rsprocessingaborted-error
