Did you figure out what was happening here?
It really looks like someone entered a date 2009 and the system correctly posted to the closed year and then did the JE to update the current years Retained Earnings.
What seems so strange here is the number of open years - it is a pretty big gap.
Any way, let us know if we can be of more assistance. If solved, let others know you got resolution from the forum assistance.
Caution when running this kind of inquiry. As you may be aware you can 'reset' the starting JE numbers each year, although I have no idea why you would.
So, be sure that not only the JE ID match but the other posted details match as well.
Were you trying to post to 2009? or was that really a Typo error.
If so, you should use the Correct function in the GL and BACK Out the Error and Create the new JE with the correct date.
Hi Bill, This is the same customer that had the wrong first day/last day of 2016 entered for there fiscal period for 2015. I did run the PSTL fiscal period modifier like you suggested. It corrected the periods, but these transactions in the screen shots are still in the wrong year for the GL.
Hi Somakarpagamoorthy, In the GL20000 these transactions hitting 2010 and in GL30000 1997! Transaction dates do show 2015. This is very odd!
You are right on Frank, they do have 2010-2015 opened. They had something strange going on with there Fiscal periods. Could they just back out those entries in the GL and post them to the correct year?
Hi ShellyAnn,
Please run the below query against your company database and Check the transactions dates or attach the result.
SELECT * FROM GL10000 WHERE JRNENTRY = '601959'
SELECT * FROM GL10001 WHERE JRNENTRY = '601959'
SELECT * FROM GL20000 WHERE JRNENTRY = '601959'
SELECT * FROM GL30000 WHERE JRNENTRY = '601959'
Hope this helps!!!
I have seen this but only when posting to a closed year.
As Frank notes that would mean that the 2010 to 2014 might have to still be open.
What are your open years?
I might suggest trying a reconciliation of OPEN and CLOSED years if you identify that you have no other OPEN years.
Let me know.
No but it sure looks interesting. It looks like the GL Posting Date was in 2009 and the system auto-created the entry to clear it through Retained Earnings but I have no idea how the transaction could post to 2009 unless 2010-2014 Fiscal Years haven't been closed yet.
