Is Software Assurance cost price protected?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We purchased 25 licenses for Microsoft GP back in 2016 at $4995 for each license.  That was the retail price.

We paid 18% of each license for Software Assurance.

Now the license is coming up for renewal, and our vendor now wants us to pay the percentage on top of the current retail price of $5250.

We never let Software Assurance overlap, we always paid.  I thought the price was locked in with Microsoft at what we paid originally

Am I wrong?

Please advise

GP is treating us fine.   Our resellers are not treating us fine :-(

Not a problem. I hope GP is treating you well.

Richard, sorry, I just found out that we did buy GP plus a third-party product for the $4995, and of that, the GP was $3000.  My mistake.

Do you have the Extended Pack?  I am going to check with sales operations but my price sheet lists the price per user at $3000. It does not list a separate fee for Starter Pack vs Extender Pack. Your reseller may be including prices for third-party product so I would ask for a detailed invoice.

We purchased 25 licenses for Microsoft GP back in 2016 at $4995 for each license.

Our maintenance fee was 25 x 18% of the $4995

Now the vendor wants us to pay 25 x 18% of the current retail price which they say is $5250 this year

There have been no price increases so your maintenance fee should not have increased. You purchased a 3-user license, correct?

I am trying to get my login credentials for CustomerSource, but in the mean time, the list price was $4995 when we purchased it back in 2016.  Once I get my credentials and log in, won't it show me the current list price?  So I have to now pay the 18% on the current list price, not the original price we paid back when we first started?

You probably mean the Protected List price. There was never anything called Software Assurance for GP. You should be able to log into CustomerSoource and pull up the list price of your software. Multiple that by 18% and there will be your price.
