PSTL - can it change the National Account associated w/a Customer?

Posted on by 571

I was under the impression that the PSTL could change the National Account for a Customer to a different National Account. That appears not to be the case.

Have you ever tried to do such a thing? We've got a couple small Customers that were assigned to the wrong National Accounts. There is invoice and payment activity. Any suggestions for moving a Customer to a different National Account? Possible?

Thank you,

I sure do. Here's the link to the gpug.com Open Forum topic. I'd like to point out that Lauri Romaniuk laid out the very same steps in her reply... and she said that her company actually automated this process!

    Sincerely,

    Steve

    Leslie,

Holy cow! (Which is an expression we have here in Wisconsin, eh?) I don't get many MVPs telling me that I have good ideas! Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Steve

    Hi,

Wait, it was you that was sparkly. When I saw you had responded, I said to myself, there's sparkly Steve!

I think your solution is pure genius. I love it! I just ran through it and it worked perfectly, kind of frightening actually. After the first step of merging the old customer id into the new, properly parented customer ID, I changed the new customer ID back to the ID number of the old customer. Now it's as if nothing ever happened. You still need to be aware that any National account transactions that were booked prior to this change are now misrepresented, but hey, I like it! I'm going to have to add this to my blog so that I won't forget. Do you have a link of your original posting?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hello, Sparkly One!

Our Collections lady actually found a thread from December on gpug.com that dealt with this question... and found that I had offered a solution! Great memory, eh?

The idea I came up with -- not that I remember writing it, you understand; I'm just reading what I wrote! -- was to

    1. Create a new Customer with the correct National Account and all the same attributes as the existing Customer.
    2. Use PSTL Customer Combiner to move transactions to the new Customer.
    3. Delete the old Customer now that it has no transactions.
    4. Use PSTL Customer Modifier to change the Customer Number of the new Customer to be the same as the old Customer.

... and Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt!

I do not know if the person to whom I suggested that laborious routine ever used it... but it at least sounds plausible. What do you think?

    Sincerely,

    Hi Steve,

You are correct in your discovery, PSTL cannot change the children of National Accounts. You should be able to delete the child from the wrong parent and add it to the correct one if you have never posted any transactions using that National Accounts relationship. Once you've 'used' the national account, you're toast. I have broken the rules by going behind the scenes and changing it in the tables and the world did not come to an end (yet). Look at the RM Customer Master, the RM Apply Open table and the RM Apply History table.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
