Looking for help reducing D365 licensing costs (Commerce attach issue)

Hey folks,

Anyone here working on downsizing/optimizing D365 license costs?

I’m stuck on a weird one: our Purchase Basic role is triggering SCM base + Finance attach + Commerce attach. I’ve been asked to figure out which privilege is causing the Commerce attach requirement so we can remove it (or justify keeping it).

I checked the License usage summary in D365 but can’t find any way to see which specific privileges are triggering the Commerce attach license.

Has anyone dealt with this? Any tools, reports, or tips on identifying which duties/privileges map to Commerce attach?

Appreciate any pointers!

    Hi,

Yes, I dealt a lot with the license compliance the past 9 months (and before). Can you tell me if you are running the latest quality update for your Dynamics 365 F&O version? If not, there is a known issue that can cause unexpected behavior as you describe. In case you are on the latest quality update, you can check starting from the Role licenses, which objects are entitled to a specific license SKU or not. From there, you can try to find the related duties and privileges.

Apart from the links, read more about the license enforcement on my blog. Dynamics 365 Licensing Enforcement Advent Calendar - Dynamicspedia

Replicated this scenario and here are the findings.
    1. If any privilege is granted to a menu item tied to a Commerce functionality the system flags the user for a Commerce attach license.
    2. Using the Security configuration tool and found that the two privileges that references the Commerce attach licenses (post version 10.0.44) is,
        - RetailPurchOrderMaintain
        - RetailVendorsMaintain (Maintain retail vendors)
        - RetailChannelsMaintain (Maintain retail channels)
        - DeliveryModelMaintain (Maintain delivery modes)

Any privilege that references Retail (DOM, Call Centre, Payments) or Commerce utilises the Commerce attach license. The other option is to use the Security diagnostics.

Note: Ran the above scenarios on a 10.0.46 sandbox. Must say licensing overlaps on Commerce from D365 F&SCM has been simplified substantially.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer questions, if any.
