Functionality in MR different than FRx?

In FRx and MR we have a tree definition like this:

Company
     Unit 1
          SubUnit A
          SubUnit B

     Unit 2

     Unit 3

SubUnit A and SubUnit B in the tree have Page Options set to NP (Non-Printing).

In FRx, a user can generate the report and drill from Unit 1 and see details from SubUnit A and SubUnit B and drill through to Transaction data.

In MR, there is no ability to drill on Unit 1 (at all).

This is a problem for my users (and quite a functionality change).  Has anyone else experienced this?  Outside of the obvious work-around of removing the NP page option is there another way to make MR behave more like FRx?

Will MR 2012 bring back this functionality?

Tim

Did you make sure that your report in MR is set to look at Financial and Account.  Not just financial and that you choose all units when you created your report.  I am able to drill down into the sub units just not down into the  Transaction detail like we used to in Great Plains.

The report is set to Fianacial, Account and Transaction.  Are you sure you can see amounts from units that are set to NP?

    Hi Tim,

Sorry for the delayed response. I was able to test this in both MR and FRx and re-created what you described. I researched the functionality and determined MR is working as designed. The NP print control is designed to keep a unit hidden and being able to drill into a hidden unit runs contrary to the design spec for the feature. I’m not sure why FRx allowed this functionality but I believe it to be incorrect.

If you have a valid business justification for wanting to drill into non-printing units, I would encourage you to enter a suggestion for that on our new consolidated feedback system: Microsoft Connect. Development tracks all suggestions out there when determining which changes to implement in future updates. Below is an article which explains how to log the suggestion and vote it up.

I apologize for any inconvenience this issue creates. Due to the functionality, you will need to leave the sub units as printing if you want to be able drill into them.

    Jake,

    Thanks for replying.

I disagree with your interpretation of the design of the NP Page Option.  I would interpret the Option's design was to suppress a Unit Page at the top-most level of the Report.  When a user sees a figure and wants to see where it comes from they DRILL to the details.  The loss of functionality just adds to an already tough sell for this transition from FRx to MR.

I read and vote on Connect often.  However, the form submission is BROKEN.  The Impact response will not accept any choices from the drop-down.  It complains that you must select a number.  It is not parsing off the text at the end included in the drop-down selection.

After we removed the NP Page Option another more harmful bug in MR was revealed.  I have documented it carefully and I'm bringing it to Houston.  I'll be seeing your team (and you?) on Sunday.

    Hi Tim,

I will be in Houston for Convergence. Feel free to swing by the help desk. Any of us can help you with this issue.

    Jake,

I forwarded the details of the problem to Ryan Sandness at Convergence.

    Hi Tim,

Did you checked in the latest build of MR 2012 (1028) if the functionnality has been amended or changed ?

On a slightly different topic, do you deal with multi-currencies and consolidated statements in MR ? we're having an issue by not being able to translate the numbers proprely on the output result and only get 0$ values back when trying to report our various GP entities against a single currency (CAD)...

Have a great Canada Day !

    Hi Tim,

The functionality is the same for the latest build (1028). We do assist with multi-currency but I would ask that you create a new thread for that topic.

    Jake,

Thanks for the update.  I stopped patching MR during our year end processing.  My users had reached stability and confidence in the version that was running just prior to Convergence.  I did not want to risk "breaking" something with a patch just prior to having to produce financial for Auditors and our Board of Directors (usually refferred to a a "career limiting activity").

Now that year end has passed, I will get to updating MR again and verifying functionality.

Beat - Yikes!  We don't do consolidations or multi-currency.  Please start a new thread as Jake suggests.  This one is getting old.

    Thanks

    Tim
