Work Date & Posting Date

Hi Everyone

Just a question regarding Posting Scenarios:

My posting date is linked to my work date.

When I have a scenario where I create a Sales Order on May 6 (Default Posting Date will then be May 6), but I only post this on May 8 - without manually changing anything, the posting date of my Posted Sales Invoice is May 6 (which is not my current work date)

Should the posting date therefore be changed manually to accommodate the actual date of Posting my Order, or will the system automatically link it if the work date is no different? Or have I missed something on setup?

Regards,
I have the same question (0)

    Hi Tris,

It's not required to change posting date manually on SO if you want May 6 date on booked invoice that you are sharing with customer.

If you want 8 may on booked invoice that you are sharing with customer, then you need to manually change posting date to 8 may on SO.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks & Best regards,

    Hi,

The above can be achieved with some customization, like checking the posting date to see if it matches the work date before posting.
If not, it can be modified using an event subscriber.

Let me know if this helped.

    Thanks,
    KP

    Hello,

In Business Central, the posting date on a Sales Order defaults to the work date at the time the order is created, and this date remains unless you change it manually before posting. So, if you create the order on May 6 (with a work date of May 6), and post it on May 8 without updating the posting date, the posted invoice will still reflect May 6. The system does not auto-update the posting date to the current work date at the time of posting. To reflect the actual posting date (e.g., May 8), you'll need to manually adjust the posting date on the document before posting. This behavior is by design and helps maintain date accuracy aligned with user intent.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Hello,

You will need to manually update the sales order posting date.
Otherwise, you can always customize to update the posting date before posting.

The standard behaviour will not automatically link or update the posting date to the work date.

Posting date plays a significant role, make sure if you really wish to automate this.
Out of the Box this won't be possible so you need to manually change before posting.
Apart form posted sales invoice we have other ledgers and subledgers as well having posted dates.

As other experts mentioned, this is standard behavior. The system will not automatically update the Posting Date before posting. This is risky. For example, if you want to post an order from April in May, you cannot do so if you force the date to be updated.
It is recommended to take these risks into consideration when customizing.

    Hope this helps as well.
    Thanks.

Agree with previous responses, Business Central keeps the Posting Date from when you first created the order (based on the Work Date). It doesn’t change automatically when you post. You need to change it manually if you want the actual posting date. This is the standard system behavior.
