cant not delete JE on Initialize Mode

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi folks,

I have version  2012

I was trying to delete an unposted JE in Solomon, but after I switched to Initialized mode, it still would not let me edit or delete.

so current status is no action and on hold.

Is it because of settings of my initialized mode? if so, how do I change?

This JE is a reversing JE of an existing one which is not owned by me

Thanks in advance,

HG

Your network rights do not play any particular part in your ability to delete a JE batch.  The rights I have been talking about are the Dynamics SL rights as set up under the SL Administration menu.

Another thought.  If you simply do not want this batch and its status is H then you could run the following two SQL commands:

delete from GLTran where module = 'GL' and batnbr = 'nnnnnn'

delete from Batch where module = 'GL' and batnbr = 'nnnnnn'

My concern with doing this, without diagnosing the whole issue, is that it could have side effects if the situation is not exactly as you have said.

You also said, at one time, that you could not change the batch type to non-recurring.  What is the current batch type?

SYSADMIN user for the system or solomon? if it is for the computer, I could ask IT for the sysadmin user id and password,  then log in to solomon using my own information?

The SYSADMIN user, if no one else, should be able to do this if the batch status is other than posted (though a U status requires initialize mode).  You did not indicate that you tried it with that user ID.  You would need the SYSADMIN password to do that.

You have a situation I have never encountered in my 22 years of supporting Solomon / Dynamics SL or there is another factor that we have yet to discover.

I would be willing to do a remote session with you to take a look if you are interested.  I utilize a product from Citrix called GoToAssist for remote sessions so all you have to do is go to a web address once I start a session.  You really have me curious as to what is going on.

so looks like no one in the company has right to delete any JEs once they are created....which just sounds weird to me...

Thanks Rick, that is very great info, I can not change the JE to Nonrecurring, dont have that right either.

But I did emailed to IT and have them fix my user right to at lease be able to delete unposted JE. Really appreciate your help.

If the batch has an original batch number then it was created by one of the following:

    1) from an auto-reversing batch

    2) from a recurring batch

    3) from the 2011 feature where you can select a batch and click the button to the right of the batch number field and you selected one of the options on that pop-up screen.

the original batch number could be pulled up to see if that was a recurring batch or an auto-reversing batch should you want to know what generated this batch.

Regardless of its origin, you should be able to delete it if it is not posted unless you do not have delete rights to the journal transaction screen.  I just ran a test with a user ID who did not have delete rights and the delete button on the toolbar was disabled if the user did not have delete rights but enabled if they did.

I think you need to check your rights to this screen.  You could use the SYSADMIN user id and password (if you have those credentials) and try deleting this batch with those credentials.  The question becomes if you really want to delete this batch or not.  It sort of sounds like you think it was created by mistake and you just want to get rid of it.

Also, look at the batch type.  If it is not Nonrecurring, see if you can change it to that, save the batch, pull it back up again and try the delete again.
