Configure Microsoft Graph Mailbox in Dynamics 365 CE to automatically create cases in Dynamics 365.

Hello,

Our client is looking to migrate their mailbox configuration from Exchange Web Services (EWS) to Microsoft Graph. Currently, we are using the Exchange online server to automatically create cases in Dynamics 365.

However, when attempting to set up an email server profile using Microsoft Graph, we noticed there is no clear option available within the configuration settings.

I would appreciate any guidance or steps on how to configure an email server profile for a Microsoft Graph-based mailbox in Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (CE).

Thanks in advance for your support!

    1. Use OAuth (Modern Authentication) with EWS:
    • Microsoft recommends Modern Auth (OAuth 2.0) with EWS — not Graph — for Dynamics 365 server-side sync.
    • Steps:
      • Register an Azure AD App.
      • Grant it EWS.AccessAsUser.All permissions.
      • Enable modern authentication in Dynamics 365 Email Server Profile.
Note: This is the currently supported and recommended configuration.
    2. Graph API Support (Future Roadmap):
    • Microsoft has not yet released support for Microsoft Graph API for server-side synchronization in Dynamics 365.

    Thanks for your reply

My client is planning to migrate from Exchange Web Services (EWS) to Microsoft Graph in line with their organizational policy. However, they are concerned about ensuring that this transition does not disrupt the Dynamics 365 application.

At the moment, we are configuring the email server using the EWS approach with OAuth (Modern Authentication), and the client has already provided us with the Tenant ID, Application ID, and Client Secret. ( pls see the below picture)

As I understand it, since we're using OAuth with EWS—which is the current Microsoft-recommended method for Dynamics 365 server-side synchronization—we should not need to make any changes immediately, even if their organization moves toward Microsoft Graph for other purposes.

Could you please confirm if this understanding is correct, or let me know if there’s anything else we should consider?

    Best regards,
