HR Health Insurance V Payroll Benefit and Deduction

I'm looking at setting up a health insurance code.  We pay 25% of the employee's health insurance.  It looks like in HR you can setup a health insurance code where you have an employee deduction and an employer deduction.  It also looks like you can do the same think using the payroll deduction and benefit windows.  What my question is: Is there any benefit to using the HR window V the 2 Payroll windows?

    Hi David--

The HR windows work with the payroll windows.  If you think about it as a stack, HR sits on top and feeds the information to PR.  So the employee amount in the HR window becomes a deduction in payroll, and the employer amount becomes the benefit in payroll.

The benefit of using the HR window is that you get to track more information specific to health insurance, and you get the reporting and tools available in HR to manage enrollment (including additional statuses, beneficiary designations, cobra tracking, etc).

Please let me know if you have further questions.

    Take care,

    Christina
