Update Parent Record

Hi Community,

I would like to update a parent record upon creation of the child record.

I would like to copy a value from the child record to a specific field on the parent record form. For this purpose,  I created a workflow.

This works when I only have one child record, but it does not work when I create a second or third child record.

What happens when creating the 2nd child record, the system does update the parent record but not with the details from the 2nd child record, but it pick the details from the 1st child record.

Is there any way to get around this?

Thanks much!

Debbie

    RE: Update Parent Record

when you trigger a workflow on a child record, the main record is the child, and the parent is unique, so when you copy inside the workflow the values from the child (current) to the parent, the workflow can only copy from the current, no way it copies from other children (this assuming you are using the standard steps and not some custom workflow activities)

please post screenshots of your workflow if you feel relevant to show your issue

    Hi Guido,

    Thanks for replying.

I was thinking the same, but perhaps I am doing something wrong.

Please see my screenshots below.  I

Hope you can still understand considering the instance is in Dutch.

After Condition 2 (Vullen Rubriek 2)

After activating the WF, I created 3 child records all with a different 'rubrieken' value and the system updated all 3 Rubriek fields with the value from the first child record.

    Regards,

    RE: Update Parent Record

That's probably because you need to add "stop workflow" step inside each of those conditions after you set a field.

Otherwise, it will update in the first condition

And will proceed to the second

Since you will have the first field assigned before, it will update in the second condition

    And so on

The first child record will get assigned to each of the fields. All other child records be ignored.
