Convert inventory to location bins

I have a location that wants to start using bins with some warehouse features but they will not use directed put-away and pick. Is there a practical way to do this? One way would be to create a new location with bins and then do all the item reclassifications. This will be tedious and not practical because of having to rename location. I wondered about using the 'create warehouse location' feature to at least get the inventory into a bin and then it might be simpler to do the item reclass journals. Part of this process involves running the warehouse physical inventory journal but when I run the calc. it does not produce any records even though I can see the inventory in the adjustment bin report and in the warehouse entries.

Does anybody have a suggested method for doing this, should I be attempting the 'create warehouse location' even though the location won't be using advanced warehousing?

Thanks in advance.

If you wish you can add bins to your current location you do not have to create a new location.

Then you can either do item reclassification or physical inventory to move the inventory into the correct bins.

For adding the bins you could export your journal lines to excel add the bins in excel and them import them again.

And when you are all done you can switch the bin mandatory on your location.

I did try the item reclass to move from location with blank bin to same location with new bin but BC does not allow:

Bin Mandatory must have a value in Location: Code=MAIN. It cannot be zero or empty.

Hi, Personally suggest to create a new Location, and then adjust through Item Reclassification Journals.

Because if there are one or more open ledger entries on this location, we can not change Bin Mandatory. So we can't change Bin to null.

    Hope this helps as well.

    Thanks.

Did you get that even when the location was set with bin not to be mandatory?
