Power BI report embedded not refreshing data

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 25
Hi

I created a Power BI report / visual using Power BI desktop and published the report and embedded this report in Business Central using my Workspace. (Sorry my Power BI knowledge is limited so hope I explained what I did) I can see the report in the role centre in Business Central but the data is not getting refreshed. However I am able to refresh the same report in Power Bi desktop

How do I resolve this issue ?

Regards

    Hey ,

Refreshing the report in Power BI Desktop only updates your local file. Once you publish it to the Power BI Service (your workspace), the embedded version in Business Central pulls data from the published semantic model/dataset in the cloud — not from your desktop.

That’s why the data looks stale in BC even though it refreshes fine locally.

    How to fix it:

    1. Go to your Power BI workspace (powerbi.com).

    2. Find the dataset (semantic model) behind your report (not the report itself).

    3. Click the three dots (...) next to the dataset → Settings.

    4. Under Data source credentials, make sure the credentials for your Business Central connection are entered and valid (re-enter them if needed).

    5. Under Scheduled refresh, turn it On and set the refresh frequency (e.g. daily, or up to 8 times per day on Pro license)Click Apply.

    6.

After the scheduled refresh runs (or you can trigger a manual Refresh now from the same page), the embedded report in Business Central should show the updated data.

    A few extra tips:

    • It can take a few minutes after the refresh for the tiles/visuals in BC to update.

    • If you’re using Import mode (most common with BC), scheduled refresh is required.

    • If you’re on DirectQuery, it should pull live data, but many BC reports use Import. Try setting up the scheduled refresh first — that usually solves it right away.
