Error posting an Assemble to Project

(4) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 673
I have created an Assemble to Project. The Assembly Order has created on the Item but I cannot post it.
The item card parameters are correct at Assemble to Order.

Error on Assembly Order when preview/posting..
I have attempted to post via the Project journal but that doesn't work (remaining qty must not be >0 error) and does not seem the right process. That should only be used for Assemble to stock consumption. Thus, I am very confused as to why this process is not working.
[note : there is no bins turned on in the location]

I have the same question (0)

I'm sorry, I can't see the screenshot you uploaded. It would be helpful if you could share the error message.

    Thanks.

To post consumption of an Assemble-to-Order Item against a Project you must use the "Create Project Journal Lines" action on the Project Planning Lines screen.  Note: The ATO Item must be part of the selection being sent to the Project Journal.

    OR

Use the "Calc. Remaining Usage..." action on the Project Journal.

Both processes will create the Project Journal line with the link to the Project Planning Line correctly applied.  When you Post the Project Journal it will Post the Assembly Order's Output and related Consumption in the background as part of the consumption of the Assembled Item.

    Hi Ben
I still don't get this to work. On the Assembly order created, I created and regsitered a warehouse pick for the components. Then, as you suggested, I performed a project journal off the project planning lines but it will not post. It expects a quantity for the assembled item already to be available (see attached).
I cannot post on the Assembled Order and I have no microsoft documentation to refer to.

It looks like you didn't use the function "Create Project Journal Lines" (based on "Line Type" being blank), which is required for the process to work.  Please try again from the Project Planning Lines using the "Create Project Journal Lines" function.

P.S. I do not know whether it is required, but check with your "Apply Usage Link" is enabled for the Project.  This is visible on the Project Card > Posting tab.

It appears you have insufficient inventory. Please check the inventory quantity at the Location -> Bin level.

    Thanks.

I finally got the posting on the assembly to project to work, and it was all down to populating the bin code on the project planning line. The column for the bin code had to be personalised and brought into the project planning line, and that allowed it to be posted okay.
This does make me question, though, what the location card settings for assemblies and projects are and how they are defaulted for use on project postings.
