"Item Age Composition - Value" Report: discrepancy?

Hi,
One of our colleage approached to say that the totals of inventory values do not match with the totals of the age.
He says it's the first time I see this and I don't understand this at all (I actually have not ran this report previously)
Can someone explain what's going on here? I am not sure if this is a bug or if there is something that I'm missing that I don't understand.
I ran without all filters and they still show the discrepancies - I am so confused.

I looked at the learn prior to posting questions - and also found some examples but I didn't see anywhere that I was looking at that the totals didn't match - it is very confusing when the period totals is bigger than total inventory values and some of the spot checks didn't match with the period so I'm very confused.

Thank you,
I have the same question (4)

    Hi, hope the following helps.
Item Age Composition - Value (report)

In addition, the data of this report is mainly taken from "Item Ledger Entry". If you want to study the standard logic, you can check its code.
report 5808 "Item Age Composition - Value"

    Thanks.

This isn't a bug — the "Item Age Composition - Value" report uses valuation dates and posting dates to allocate inventory into aging buckets. Timing differences, rounding, or backdated transactions can cause totals to not match exactly. Try comparing with the Inventory Valuation report for consistency.

    Hi all,

The value on each column should be, the sum of Remaining Quantity on that period  X the Unit Cost for that period.

The Remaining Quantity is on Item ledger Entry and you can confirm it with Item Age Composition - Quantity.

The  Unit Cost for the period is calculated, check Value Entry and filtering Valuation Date for the period (Sum Cost Amount + Cost Expected) /(Sum Quantity)

I have the same issue with this report. Does this report have any problem where, after posting a positive adjustment entry, the value still shows as the full amount while the status is still open? The aged bucket value is incorrect, but the Inventory Value column shows the correct amount.

    Hello,

The Item Age Composition report almost never matches total inventory value.
It’s not a valuation report, it buckets ILEs by posting date and ignores things like revaluations, expected cost, partial consumption leftovers, and negative/zero-cost distortions.

So differences in totals = normal and expected.
Use Inventory Valuation for the “true” value.

Thank you - I expect minor differences  as you talk about but values like these do not make any sense at all to me and my co-workers.  I had to create my own report for this purpose because currently this report is of no use and don't know what purpose it's serving. Qty one matches perfectly but no matter how much I try to make sense of this report I couldn't.
