We have implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 along with several internal solutions that integrate directly with D365 Finance & Operations.
For our weekly release deployments, we use the TestComplete tool from SmartBear. TestComplete is a user-friendly, UI-based automation tool that requires little to no coding knowledge, allowing even non-technical team members to create and manage test cases simply by manually performing test steps, which the tool records automatically in the background.
While we have encountered minor issues, none have been critical or caused code breakages. If there are significant changes that affect field recognition, remapping fields in TestComplete is straightforward and does not require complex rework. Tutorials and documentation are readily available on the SmartBear website for additional support.
We have successfully automated testing for our desktop applications used by buyers, end-to-end D365 processes up to invoicing (including stock receiving via the Advanced Warehouse App on both desktop and Zebra devices), e-commerce integrations, and wholesale tools for external customers. Our automation also covers finance and production processes, including invoice transmission to Ex-Flow, mapping, and processing within the Ex-Flow module.
In summary, although TestComplete is a premium tool, the investment is justified by the efficiency gains and results. We are now able to complete our regression testing within just a day or two, significantly improving our deployment process.
