Automatic reservation backorders

Good day experts,

I'm looking for an auto-reserve function that reserves inbound items against the open sales order lines the moment they become available in the right inventory status.

In our case, all products arrive in quarantine status and are not specifically purchased for one sales order. Once the quality check has been completed, a quality order brings the items from quarantine into released status, at which point this auto-reserve functionality should take over. I'm afraid this eliminates the marking option, as a quality order is an inventory blocking that interferes with the marking.

We already have a batch job set for releasing sales orders to warehouse, so that the works are created, we just need to find a way that auto-reserves the items when they become available.

We're currently on Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations 10.0.24 (10.0.1084.121).

Hello Arnold,

Do you already have that setting enabled in Inventory Management Parameters? That will reserve items that are on order when you create the sales order. I dont expect that this will be broken like with marking. Would have to be validated.

Otherwise, if you already have a batch to release teh sales order, you know that this setup on the warehouse teh batch will first attempt to reserve the item before creating the work. I use that setup all the time.

You can also configure the batch to keep the reservation on release failure to keep reservation even if no work was created.
