Restoring the .bck backup from Retail Management System.

Hello, I am new to RMS, just got involved to help a friend in need.  His RMS System Server Crashed  the HDD and he lost his data.  He has a backup from the RMS system that was run a day  before the crash.  The file is a .bck file, generated from the RMS System.  When I reloaded the system and put RMS back onto the system, I was unable to find a "RESTORE" function.  The book and documents talk about the ability, but I can not find it anywhere in the system. I find the Backup no problem, but where is the Restore?

If the restore has to be run in SQL, he is running 2005 Express I believe and I could not find a control console there either to restore the database with.

Could anyone please help and send me in the correct direction.

Thanks

You need to use store operations administrator to restore your backup.

Open administrator  click on file>connect -locally using credentials you provided while installing SQL.click on database>create.Follow the wizard and you will be able to restore your backup

I tried that thank for the direction, however, I now get the following error:

"The media family on device c:\program files (x86)\Microsoft retail management system\store operations\dbfiles\3-04-2014.bck is incorrectly formed. SQL Server can not process the media family. RESTORE FILELEST is terminating abnormally."

The backup file is directly from the RMS and the name is the same.  I just copied it into the folder as that is where the others were for setup when I reloaded.

Do you have any suggestions as to what I should try or do next?

    Thanks again

"Incorrectly formed" - sounds like you may be trying to restore a backup done on SQL Server 2008 onto SQL Server 2005 (or 12 onto 08) - do you know what version of SQL was running that took the backup? Did you install that same version on the new server?
