Sales Order Management with several shipments

Posted on by 338

Im coming from Dynamics SL 2015 trying to setup BC for 11 companies,  and I just realized this, I might not have the whole knowledge but this is my question:

I  have a sales order for any item by 100 pieces, in the inventory I only have 50 pieces, BC will make me a shipment with only my 50 pieces  automatically or I have to set that manually in the sales order?

Hope someone can answer me.

Thks!

P.D. Sorry if this is a very obvious question.

    Marisun,

    Adding to Josh's reply...

A few setups that might help:

On Sales & Receivable Setup, the field 'Default Quantity to Ship'. Here you can select Remainder or Blank. Remainder will always show the remaining Quantity to Ship if you have multiple shipments. Blank will require the User to enter the Quantity for the Sales Lines being shipped.

As for your question, not knowing your Warehouse operation, if I have large Sales Orders to pick Items that are available and have the potential to create multiple Shipments due to backorders, I would consider an APP for the Warehouse. There are FREE versions, 5 devices or less and paid subscriptions. I am only talking about Basic Warehousing so the Handheld will take an Order and scan only those Items being shipped. No manual entry needed. Look at this APP: www.dmsiworks.com/

The APP might be a win-win. Check it out and you might solve many issues.

    Thanks,

    Steve

So, as far as I understand this has to be set manually :O

What happen if I have a sales order with 100 lines?, I would need to go line by line doing this? And what happen when I have other variables like batch numbers, wharehouse locations and import information that affects receipts. This seems to me as if BC is worst way beyond SL, OMG!

Not obvious at all. It is dependent on the process you choose determined by the location. If you have left settings blank on the location you can use the “Qty. to Ship” field to manually determine this and create a shipment. As a user you will be alerted to do so as you will get an inventory warning notification - settings dependent too

If you have one of the location settings about picks enabled then you still have a field to determine how many but it will understand the current system maximum, so 50 in your example. It then boils down to reality and whether those 50 are viable for shipment.

Worth noting that you can set at customer level if partial shipments are allowed
