I can't find anywhere in the help & training instructions for how to create an iframe, what it is, and how it looks in a dashboard - where to read about it please?

    Hi,

Iframe are very similar to what is used on form. You can read more about here :

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg328034.aspx

Is there some specific challenge you are facing?

    Thanks,

    PS

Iframe is a concept derived from HTML .Since Dynamics CRM is also a web application ,it  has also capability to parse Iframe src. Dashboard and Entity form support this.

When web page gets loaded ,web browsers parse the generated html tags and based on Engines(browsers) and compilers it renders Web Pages.

To create Iframe in CRM ..you only need to add a src (for any web resource ie url) either external and internal ..it will be there on your Dashboard .
