Importing Marketing Lists into MS CRM 4.0

Hi all,

For my current client, I am required to create approximately 200 marketing lists (or groups as they prefer to call them) alongisde the normal data imports of contacts, organisations etc.

I've done quite a bit of research into this, and have tried to do an import using the Microsoft Data Migration Manager, the CRM Import Feature and even using the C360 Data Import Manager. Even though I can setup the import, they always fail and having read a number of online articles I'm beginning to believe that this is not possible.

Can anyone elighten me regarding this? Is it possible? Has anyone successfully managed to import a number of Marketing lists?

Many thanks in advance

     Hi,

I think this is a tough one, coz I'm trying to figure out how to import marketing lists as well..

The thing is that using Data Migration Tool, you can easily import related entities, but the case of leads and marketing lists is a bit different, because they're not directly related. I can see in SQL, that there is a table in the middle called ListMemberBase.

So I can get from SQL a list and create a csv file with all the leads data and the marketing list they belong to in a column, but when I want to import it, I can't find the way to relate the lead to a marketing list in CRM.

Any Ideas ?? The main question is: how to import a list of leads and marketing lists into CRM 4 so they are related??

Not sure if you are still working on this?  I have created a massive import process for one of our clients using C360 Import Manager for CRM 4.0.  Creating marketing lists, campaign activitities and marketing list members. There are a couple of things that you might want to look at trying.

First if you are using SQL as your data source make sure that you are not using a filtered view as C360 uses network services communicating with the SQL server.  Network services will not be able to render filtered views.

Second you need to make sure when using the import you clearly specify the correct order.  If you want the process to create multiple marketing lists you will need to import/ create this lists first.  Make sure when using C360 Import Manager you create two dynamic fields one for Marketing list member type = 2 and member type = 2 (2 = contacts if you want contacts on the list).  The other issue that you might be having is within your tranfermations.  When you map to picklists and use the name you need to make sure you set the transfomation "automatic picklist mapper'.

When you import contact now you can use C360's post import events to create the list members and have them related to specific marketing lists you just created.

    Hopefully this help!

    Here's an easy way:

    1. Add a bit field to contacts for each marketing list you want to add members to. e.g. contact.new_mylist

    2. On import of contacts set the bit field on the contact to = yes

    3. Create the marketing list and add members based on advanced find - your advanced find will be: all contacts where new_mylist = yes

Ensure you select to add all records returned by query and this will work for as many as you want i.e. you don't need to add members in groups of 50 - 250 for each page returned... just add in one hit.

Once done you can remove the bit field from the contacts entity.

    Job done! :)
