Mail box not configured for outgoing mails - Dynamics 365

I have a challenge sending mails out of Dynamics 365 - it was working, but now several mail boxes fail - all it seems fails with this:
Error : Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.ServiceRequestException: The request failed. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

And in Dynamics mail box view, it says (translated from Danish): This mail box has been deactivated for handling outgoing mails

How do I get that activated again? (Exchange is AWS hybrid, if that makes a difference)

I have the same question (0)

    Hi partner,

    Please follow the steps below.

Go to Settings > Email Configuration > Mailboxes, edit the mailbox, check if Outgoing Email is Server-Side Synchronization or Email Router.

Then Approve Email, Apply Default Email Settings, Test & Enable Mailbox.

See if the results are all Success.

No it does not - it seems like standard settings do not have outgoing email defined, but even if I set this for outgoing mail in this mail box and hit "test and activate", it still fails on anauthorized (Http server returned Unauthorized exception)

    Hi partner,

Did you use other users' mailboxes to send emails?

If so, "Allow other Microsoft Dynamics 365 users to send email on your behalf" must be checked in the user's personal settings.

    Update:

It turned put to be a bug from a firewall firmware update - troubleshooting also caused a bunch of old mails being sent out - rather bad.

For the benefit of others changing authentication on a mailbox:

    - check the handle mail from date on the mail boxes before making the changes! (note this is not shown in forms by default)

    - in this case the mail boxes was set to handle mails after 1900-1-1 and the server config was 2017-1-1 (now set to a more recent and relevant value in my case
