Dynamics CRM 2013 Mobile App SubGrids

Hi,

We created a custom entity called Timesheet.  This timesheet is a subgrid on the form that loads, and uses some javascript.  This form works great in the browser but it doesnt look like you can do hardly anything with mobile forms except expose attributes.  Anyway around this?

You're best bet is to use a third-party client like Resco.  The native mobile app is pretty simplistic, especially the 2013 version.

Thanks for the reply I have tried Resco didn't really like and don't want to pay for it.

Also Resco just uses the Mobile form in CRM I need to be able to edit the mobile form to include custom sub-grids Microsoft said they were going to support this now if they did that is another story.

Is there a way to display an HTML page because the subgrid is just HTML in the Mobile app somehow?

You're not going to be able to do any of that with the native app.  You can look at related records by swiping left, which should get you to a list of related timesheets, but that will have absolutely no support for JS or process.

The only way to get what you want on a smartphone would be to build your own app (which CRM supports) just for time entry, or to extend an existing app like Resco.

Either way, you're going to be spending money and resources to support your custom work on a smartphone.

The other alternative could be to test it on a tablet and see if issuing tablets might solve your problem.  Still not free, but potentially cheaper than custom dev.

Really appreciate your reply Wayne I knew it probably wasn't going to be easy :)  Maybe creating the app is the way to go and then we have expense entry as well.  I did call Resco and they said another client was doing it but they built a custom app as well.

    Hello Paul,

with Resco you don’t really need to build a custom app – the customization is so flexible, that you can create your own solution on top of Resco Mobile CRM. In the case of sub-grids it is even very simple, you would just prepare an HTML/ JavaScript component displaying the sub-grid and insert it in Resco customization package. This approach can be actually quite cost effective when compared with custom development, depending on the overall features of the mobile application you are after.

You can check a blog by Urs Tobler (a partner of Resco) about creating similar component and his scenario - blog.resco.net/.../html5-extensions-in-resco-mobile-crm-and-woodford-6-2-a-proof-of-concept

If you are interested in how to extend the app with HTML, this webinar recording explains the concept - www.youtube.com/watch
