CRM "Connections" between Opportunity & Contact

(0) ShareShare

I am currently using CRM 2013 on-premise. Within an opportunity, I use the field "CustomerId" for the parent account name (company name), then I have the "contact" field that is filled with a clients name from within the account/company. My problem is that the "contact" is not automatically connected to the opportunity like the account is. Is there a way to have this automatically done rather than individually connecting them to the opportunity?

You are using the 'Potential Customer' lookup on the Opportunity form. Note that this field is a multi-entity lookup field - you can either select an Account record or a Contact, but not both. If you select an Account record from the Potential Customer Lookup, then the Opportunity is displayed in the opportunity associated view of Accounts, and if you select a Contact record from the Potential Customer Lookup, then the Opportunity is displayed in the opportunity associated view of Contacts. Even if you select an Account from the Potential Customer lookup and select a Contact from the Contact lookup on the Opportunity form, the Opportunity is displayed only on the Opportunity related view under the Account and not the Contact. Unfortunately, this is a product feature and is by design. You have an option to raise this as an enhancement request to Microsoft through MSConnect.

    Workarounds

    1. Create a custom 1:N relationship between Contacts and Opportunities - You will then have a Contact Lookup on the Opportunity form, and the 'Related Opportunity' as a left navigation link under the Contact form. This will give you the required functionality. Use this only if you have to associate Accounts as "potential customer' on the opportunity form and don't tag Contacts through 'Potential Customer' lookup.

    2. Develop an SSRS Report to show you the relationship between the Opportunity, Account and Contact

"workaround" #1 was a great recommendation. Since I do not know how to do an SSRS report, I've needed to come up with several workarounds so this is a great eye opener. Thank you!
