Shipping of a Fixed Asset/Asset overseas

Hello
Is there any ISV or extension or process that helps ship a Fixed asset to a sister site overseas. The fixed asset is typically used in maintenance of other assets, hence why it is recorded as a Fixed asset on BC. Typically, with warehouse shipping on BC, you can include all documentation relevant for shipping but it is unknown how this might be done for a Fixed Asset/Asset.
I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

     Built-in Business Central Functionality

    1. Fixed Asset Reclassification Journal

Business Central allows you to transfer, split, or combine fixed assets using the Fixed Asset Reclassification Journal. This is ideal for internal transfers between departments or locations within the same company.

    2. Intercompany Transfers

If the sister site is in a different company, Business Central’s Intercompany module does not support Fixed Asset transfers directly.

     Third-Party Tools & ISVs

You can search for the ISV from the below link however I am not able to trace out the ISV which supports FA transfer from one company to another.

Hi, Fixed assets are managed internally, so there's no transfer functionality.
You can modify the location directly on the fixed asset card. If you'd like to keep a history, you can enable the Change Log feature.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    Fixed Asset Reclassification Journal

In Business Central, the Fixed Asset Reclassification Journal enables you to transfer, split, or combine fixed assets. This tool is especially useful for managing internal asset movements, such as reallocations between departments or locations within the same company.
If company is different then you have to do the manual settlement. like sale and Purchase.

    Thanks,

The easiest way is to use the reclassification journal. I don’t think assets and the warehouse are linked in any way, which is why they will never be part of Transfer Orders.

Use the reclassification journal, and you will achieve your goal.

Business Central doesn’t have a native process to handle shipping a fixed asset like inventory, with documentation and warehouse handling. Fixed assets are designed for acquisition, depreciation, and disposal, not for physical movement workflows.

For scenarios like shipping a maintenance asset to a sister site overseas with proper shipping documents, you should look at an EAM/CMMS solution. One good option is the EAM/CMMS add-on from Dhyey Consulting, available on AppSource:

    https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/DynamicsBC/PUBID.dhyeyconsultingservicespvtltd1584430919382%7CAID.cmms%7CPAPPID.f57bc22f-5c33-4edf-85de-4d1a3ecff5d1

This extension helps manage enterprise assets, including their movement, maintenance, and related documentation, making it easier to track fixed asset transfers across sites.

    Thanks

    hi

Business Central does not natively allow shipping a Fixed Asset through the warehouse module, since Fixed Assets are handled for financial lifecycle tracking rather than logistics. A practical solution is to combine FA accounting with standard warehouse processes: dispose of the asset in the sending company and acquire it in the receiving company (using Intercompany if applicable) to keep the FA ledger correct, while at the same time creating a temporary Item Card for the asset and processing a Transfer Order or Warehouse Shipment to generate all required shipping documentation. This ensures both finance and logistics are properly covered. If asset transfers are frequent, an ISV solution such as Dynaway EAM or a small AL extension can be introduced to add a “Ship Asset” function that automatically creates the transfer and updates the asset’s location, avoiding manual work and errors.

Another option is to create the fixed asset as an item card as well. But ensure on the item card you select inventory value zero. This will help you keep track of this item but its value will be 0. This way the fixed asset card is there so you can depreciate the asset, and the item card is there so you can keep track of the item when you ship it and its location.
