Prevent Discounts on Products

Is it possible to prevent discounts on the product level? We need to ensure our users don't modify the cost of a product and instead provide discounts on the Quote total. How can this be accomplished?

    Hi

    You can create a discount list and associate that with the Price List Item.

    You can create different prices lists depending on the discounts and seasons and when you create the quote, if you select the Price list applies for the particular customer and discount type, it will automatically apply the defined discount.

    I've created a Discount List that has the available currency discount set to 0. I've assigned a product to that discount list. I can still however manually enter a discount amount on the product while adding the products to the Opportunity or Quote.

    Would it make sense to just modify the form to remove the Manual Discount field?

    Yes, I would say if you do not want the Sales users to manually discount the product, this could be removed from the grid or could also look into the possibility of locking the field to be editable by only certain users like the Sales Manager. To lock the field you could use Field Security Profile, give everyone create/read access and only give update permission to certain users may be?
