Edit in Excel - Failed to retrieve the server config

I have a client that is getting the following error message when trying to use Edit in Excel.  I looked into the Options and the Server URL is exceladdinprovider.smb.dynamics.com which seems to be correct.  The screen shot below shows the differences between a client that Edit in Excel is working for and the client that is having issues.  The one on the left works and the one on the right doesn't, there are many fields missing on the right which is part of the issue.

Failed to retrieve the server config

Hello Kristen - Is the account using Edit an Excel a Delegated Admin?  You can get this message if you are using a delegated admin as it needs to be a full user who can use Edit in Excel.  The other times I have seen this message was due to a duplicate Web Service. If you go to the Web Services page and Filter on Page and sort on Service name are you seeing any duplicates?  For example ‘itemslaes’ and ‘item sales’ would be considered a duplicate.

    Hi Andy.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I did review the Web Services with the user that is having the issue and there was a duplicate for the page = 39.  We deleted one of the lines and that didn't solve the issue.  The user didn't have any issues until a few months ago.  User has a full license assigned to them as well and isn't setup as the admin.  Any other suggestions?

Hello Kristen - Does the user have more than 1 Work or School account associated with their Windows computer?

Search for  the 'Manage your account' system settings

Click on the Access work or school

I have seen if they have more than 1 account listed here then they need to disconnect the one that isn't being used for Business Central.  They probably have more that one account due to adding an additional account through the desktop Outlook program.

If this does not work here is a blog that Chris published on troubleshooting steps with Edit in Excel.

    Hi Kristen,

Make sure that your account credentials don't mix as Excel sometimes picks the default O365 credentials.

Try with other machines to make sure this doesn't happen.

Also, clear the Cache for Excel as most of the issues for my clients was resolved this way.

Make sure that the users have the correct permissions

    Hi Andy.

The user tried another computer and gets the same error.  The user is able to run Jet Reports just fine so connecting to the server there is working, but not with the Edit in Excel.

I also had the user review the accounts in the Manage you Account settings and this didn't resolve the issue either.

At this point I'm going to ask them to open a case with MS.

    Thanks for your help.

I had the same issue. To fix it, I followed these steps:
    1. Press the current user name in the top right of the add-in.
    2. Press Sign out
    3. Sign-in again
    4. Refresh the add-in
