Master Planning for Location dimension excluding few locations

Hi,

I have a requirement where customer wants to run master planning based on locations (advanced warehouse is in use) . But there are few locations (for a specific location profile ID) which we want to exclude while master planning run.

Example- Warehouse 1 have 10 locations. L1 to L10. Coverage group setup is Min-MAX. When I run master planning, it should consider on hand stock for Locations L1 to L8 but not for locations L9 and L10.

I can see that we can enable coverage by Location dimension, however there is no way to exclude some locations. Will this need to be a customisation or another solution approach can work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I have the same question (0)

    Hi Abhishek001!
You can exclude a warehouse from master planning but not a location.

One thing you could try is to use a different inventory status (different blocking status) on the items of that location. This will exclude them from master planning.
The downside is that you will need to change the inventory status before moving items to that location, and doesen't allow mixed inventory status for that location.

Or as you said, you may need a customization.

Thanks you for your quick response.

Currently how it works in the business is:

Imagine, Item A is received and put in Location 1 for 1000 quantity.  Then as per requirement it is moved to a Location 2 for 500 qty.

Created Location 2 is basically a vehicle and inventory here will ultimately be consumed in a project, which means this inventory moved in Location 2 is never going to come back in Warehouse Location 1.

Problem is that when MRP runs it considers on hand stock for all available locations , so example if Min threshold in coverage group  for this item is defined as 501. System wont understand it as it will still consider entire 1000 qty.

I can't define a blocked status to an item, because it will then block stock stored in Location 1 too.

If my explanation clarifies my scenario, do you think we have any other solution approach except customisation please?

    Thanks

    Hi Abhishek001 and Mario,

You can exclude a location from the MRP really easy using the standard functionality. But requires some setup changes,

1- Create a Storage dimension group, where the "coverage plan by dimension" is active at the location level. Assign the new Storage dimension group to your items.

2-Go to the "item coverage" setup for the released product. Create a new line for the location that you want to avoid with the MRP and assign a "Manual" coverage group.

    I hope that this helps!

    Best,

    Pablo

    Hi Abhishek001,

Why does your customer want to use master planning based on locations?  Would it not be an idea to use master planning for the requirement calculation on site/warehouse level and use the replenishment feature for the replenishment of the locations?

    Regards,

Hi lvdtang, Master Planning is using Min Max which is defined at Warehouse level, but Due to the nature of business some locations available stock we dont want to consider as we are moving stock in these locations which we assume is consumed. So currently master planning when run consider whatever is on hand stock available in warehouse (all locations)

Pablo Videla Thank you for the approach, however it requires high maintenance. This could have been applied if business have defined 1:1 item:location or few locations for an item. But I agree that this can be one of the approach which can be useful for others.

Mariano Melo Thank you for suggesting stock status. This could have worked out like you said with the limitation of changing stock status and mixed status location Profile.

We finally did a customization where some locations can be excluded when master planning runs.

Thanks to each one of you for taking your time in answering query.

    Hi Abhishek001,

We also have a requirement to block some locations from planning optimization. As I understand we can't make any changes to the planning optimization engine itself. Could you pls let us know the approach you followed as part of customizing for blocking the specific locations. Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Abhinav
