Retail device activation and Windows user session dependence.

Hello,

We are about to start a new D365 FinOps / Retail implementation project.
An important question was raised and I would like to have your opinions please.
Here is a simple scenario in order to illustrate :

  • Each of our client’s employees connects to the points of sale (different PC’s in the store) with their own Windows user session.
  • When a retail device is activated on a single point of sale (one PC), it is done with a specific Windows user session.
  • After the activation, when an employee needs to connect to the point of sale, he will open his own Windows user session.
  • At this point the Retail device needs to be reactivated, because of the Windows user session change.

This is the discussion issue : Is there any possible way of activating a Retail device without making it dependent of the Windows user session ?
There was already a discussion on the issue, see link below. I would like to know if there are any new points of view.

Thank you.
Kind regards.

As far as I know, the new Store Commerce application will operate similarly with regards to the Windows logged in user. I do not expect this scenario to change.

In general, I do not think its a good idea to do email, or browse the web on a Point of Sale. Its too risky.

    Thanks,

    Andreas

    Hello Surya,

    Thank you for your reply.

The new Store Commerce App is indeed very interesting and will simplify greatly the POS.
I can hardly wait to test it and have a clear overview of this evolution.

Regarding my issue, you mentioned that the Store Commerce App could be helpful.
Do you know if it’s activation will be Windows user session independent ?

    Thanks.

    Kind regards,

    Sašo

    Hi Saso

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Communities.

Regarding your question, we have no change in the way MPOS works in our latest version which are active as of now.

We are coming up with a Store Commerce App which should help you in this regard, as of now this is in the Preview phase and will be part of 10.0.20
