Primary Contact

Hello everyone:

How does CRM mark the Primary Contact in an Account.

The reason I'm asking is if a User Creates an Account then click on the Primary Account field and create one it will not be listed in the Contacts in the Account.

I don't believe that it does set this field (Perhaps if created from a Lead conversion?).

You can set this manually or can use a coded solution to determine which contact record is the primary.

We have removed this field and instead use the role to identify in the contact grid the right record that we wish to use.

    HI Damon

The Primary Contact on an account is just a lookup to a Contact, There isn't a field on the Contact record that it set to Primary Account, But you can create a custom checkbox or option field that is updated by a Workflow, you can either run it on demand or a onchange Trigger , it would check if the Parent Contact is set and update the field so you can use it for your business processes.

I Hope this Answers your question :)

    Kindly Verify, Best Wishes, Raz

    RE: Primary Contact

    Hi Damon,

If you converted from Lead it will be filled as well by default.

The contact you link to Primary Account will be appearing in the Contact subgrid in the Account you used as Primary

So that you need to choose.

So let's say you have 5 contact that you link to Account ABC as the primary account

then you go to Account ABC,

It will be listed in the Contact subgrid (1:N)

But not as the Primary Contact, because you assigned 5 contact to 1 account, primary contact is only 1 cannot be many.

So that you need to choose 1 from 5 assigned Contact before.

    And if you notice

It will only filter out 5 contacts by default when you try to mark who the primary contact will be.

    Hope this helps you!

    Thanks
