Upgrade to GP2015 Basic System

ReportReport
Posted on by 12

We have a client with a very basic system - GP, RM, PM, CM, Payroll (CDN) and using IM for external data import from custom application.  Have been using the system since 1996 so this is a long time, well established client.

Situation

We are starting to work on their update to GP2015 and we have a completely separate UAT Environment for both the SQL Server and the Workstation.

To kick off the process the IT department cloned the current GP2013 Server and create new VM machine.   They did the same for the testing workstation.

There are no access or operational issues with the UAT from the Server or from the UAT Workstation

There are two company databases

Issues Encountered

After confirming that the current version as cloned worked in the UAT, we dowloaded from Partnersouce the GP2015 RTM R2 DVD as well as the latest KB3066933 (June 25)

We installed the GP2015 and got version 14.00.0725

When we run Utilities we get a Problem with installation message and a refer to the UNINSTALL for more details.

Looking at the DUINSTALL in the GP2015 folder we find:

PROD 0 does not support update from 12.00.1920
PROD 1911 does not support upgrade from 12.00.21
PROD 7131 does not support upgrade from 12.00.1905

First Solution

Instllation of the KB3066933 which results in version 14.00.0778

When we run the Utilities we get the same errors, less the message for PROD 1911

So when this failed, I uninstalled ALL OF GP2015 and

Second Solution

Downloaded the original GP2015 RTM DVD that results in 14.00.0524

Completed the installation - all the same errors.

Third Solution

Download all the service packs and install and test

KB0300074 as SP14.0.619 - 2/15/15 - fails PROD 0, 414, 1911, 6499, 7131

KB3063038 as SP14.00.0725 - 5/29/15 - fails PROD 0, 1911, 7131

QUESTION

What am I missing?  I can not think of anything else I have to do.  I have been doing update for years and this is one that I dont  get at all.

    Bill,

    According to the upgrade path:

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../HOT_TOPIC_MDGP2015Upgrade

    and The 2013 Version information:

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../MDGP2013_MSPVersionlist.xlsx

You've got to be at 14.00.0778 for sure (nothing less).

You're right.  It doesn't make sense given the above information.

    Let me think about it.

    Hi Bill,

What modules are those numbers referring to?

Have you tried to go to 2013R2 first and then apply 2015 RTM + R2 ?

The links in my post have all of the information you are asking about.

Here are some screen shots - hope this gets us moving in the right direction.

At no point in the update process have we made it past this error message, so there have been no changes made to the GP2013 Environment and therefore I have not restored any databases

Latest note on partnersource re the 1920 patch

    Version: 12.00.1920
NOTE:  Only apply this update if you have an immediate need for any of the fixes that are listed in the FIX LIST.  If you are going to be upgrading to a new version of Microsoft Dynamics GP after applying this, select a different build to apply which has a valid update path to the version of Microsoft Dynamics GP that you are upgrading to.

Currently we do not have a valid upgrade from this build of Microsoft Dynamics GP.  We will have a new .msp file releasing shortly which will have a valid upgrade path.

Probably too late for you to rollback, so it looks like you'll need to wait for the next 2013 update

So the GP 13 12.00.1920 path on the Hot Topic GP2015 Upgrade is incomplete (needs caution about the GP2013 patch).

    Classic!

    @NSANTIN - Good catch!

Well now is that not just 'perfect' - I will force a restore of the UAT back to production level and see where I am and post results.

At this time I can not confirm that this is going to solve the problem, but, it appears that this is likely the cause of the problem.

Still the question remains... is it possible to apply 2013R2 first to overcome the limitation from .1920 patch ?

  • Bill Campbell Profile Picture

Beat, are you thinking that the .1920 did not change the 'data' and it only updated the 'name' of the version in the DU tables?

I am just about to restore the backup of the UAT - which is OK - but if you think 're-installing' a lower version GP2013 might fix it - it will save about an hour of time.

Waiting on the side to hear from you.

Having a brain challenge - I have the database at .1920 and I need to install GP2013R2 to get back to a supported version to complete the update.

The DU000020 shows Major at .1920 for Prod 0 and when I attempt to restore to GP2013R2 (.1745) and run GP it fails as the 'new' database is not supported by the 'older' code.

So, I need to force the issue and there in lies my 'challenge' I know is something I have done in the past , but for the life of me I can not come up with the solution.

    Help.
