Workaround to use Business Portal with IE8?

Posted on by 45

Ok - so I know that IE8 is not technically 'ready' yet, but I have a client who would *really* like to use it to access Business Portal and has not been able to do so.  A few google searches and some forum surfing hasn't turned up anything that would suggest this is possible.  Has anybody here found (or even bothered trying to find) a workaround to make Business Portal work in IE8?

I tried the Compatibility View for all websites in IE8, but the BP version 3 user can view all screens except Site Settings.  At the top of the internet page she gets, Certificate Error.  Is this something I get from her IT people or from Microsoft?

Truth be told, at the time we were asked about this issue, nobody at our office was using IE8, as it was still beta.  As a result, we were unaware of the compatibility setting.  I'll be sure to forward this advice on to the client if he asks again.  Thanks for the info!

Did you check the "Compatibility View" in IE8, which allows the IE7 or lesser versions' compatible sites to run properly on the new IE8 engine?

This would, I believe, fix the issue. There is also an option in IE8 than can be seen under Compatibility View Settings, to permanently view all the websites in IE7 mode.

    Hope this helps.

Wow - I'd forgotten about this...  thanks for the response.  As it turns out, the question came from an end user who was using IE8 beta because he could - not because it was necessary.  We ended up telling him that Business Portal was build for IE7 (which he still had) and that because IE8 was still beta, he couldn't expect everything to work with BP at that point.  Since then we haven't had any more problems.  Thanks again!

    Hi,

Thanks for using the newsgroups.  What version of IE8 are you using?  RTM?  What specific problems are you having with it and BP?

    Thanks

    Rob
