Empty Smartlist

Hi, I've installed a GP 9 client on a machine. Everything is working fine except the Smart list. When we open the smart list it is not showing anything; neither in Tree view nor in detail view. I tried to log in with multiple users on that machine and no user (even sa) can see smart lists. Although these users can access the smartlist on other machines. It means there is something on that particular client machine. I reinstall the GP on the same machine but no luck!

Try copying the entire GP application folder from one of the workstations where smartlists works, and overwriting the GP folder on the new workstation with it. This will rule out any service pack issues.

What OS is the workstation using?

Thanks Ian Stewart for your response.

I tried this and unfortunately its not working.

The OS on the workstation is Windows XP SP 2.

Just change the language for Unicode characters to English.

I would stick to Ian's suggestion -- copy the client from another machine. If you continue to experience the same issue, then the problem is ODBC related.

    hi,

when you say its not working after copying the whole GP folder, is it only smartlist not working? or the whole GP application?

just as mentioned in the past copying the whole GP folder should have resolved your case.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Empty Smartlist

OK...SmartList works for other machines but not the new one.  It is not a user login issue. (I assume you tried logging in with SA??)

That leaves, like you said, client workstation issues.  Having tried the normal fix of copying the entire install from another machine, we are back to environment.

How much RAM is on the new machine compared to other machines?

How much disk space is available after GP is installed?

Do you have a terminal server environment available and can you run GP/Smartlist fine through the terminal server from this machine?

    Ruel -

If you've copied the GP folder from a working machine, and tried various login scenarios, including 'sa' access, to no avail, then the problem has to be an environment variable.  Check antivirus, try logging onto the machine as a different AD user to rule out profile corruption, and/or reinstall the OS..
