Dear

In order not to waste anyone's time , the issue i am facing about the "depreciation button grayed out" is already resolved in the below forum :

https://community.dynamics.com/gp/f/32/t/29570.aspx

but it is occurring very frequently, almost every single time, is there any particular reason this happens?

Why does it occur , can we avoid it somehow ? Thank you

Regards

Print a depreciation report based on your last depreciation activity. Go down the bottom of the report. Check the last item. From there, you should be able to determine the next asset ID that should have been depreciated in the process. Check the information you provided for that next asset ID or the last Asset ID if it isn't depreciated in the report, in both FA General and FA Book. There must be inconsistencies that exist in the data provided in these windows hence the depreciation process stops. Likely in FA Book.

It looks like you are on GP2013, is that correct?

There's a small UI quality issue that may be playing a role as well. The window does not prevent you from closing it before the depreciation process is completed, depending on exactly where in the process the window is closed it will cause a stuck record. Further if you change which window you are focusing on before the process is complete the progress bar can and often will appear to be complete even though it's not.

The only sure fire way to make sure that the process is complete is to wait until the depreciation button becomes active again before closing the window.

If that does not pan out as the cause I would then check in the error log table (Inquiry>Fixed Assets>Error Log) to see if the process is actually getting stuck on an asset.

You appear to be accumulating records in the FA40203 table.  The likely cause of your problem would be sessions terminating abnormally.  I would suggest you work with your users to determine if this is the case and dig into the cause(s).  Here is a link to an article on one potential cause of abnormal termination.
