BC18 on-premise installation from scratch: how do you load a basic configuration?

Hello!

I've performed an on-premise installation of BC18 without the demo database because I wanted to start from scratch, but the webpage isn't loading because there are no profiles, it just endlessly loads. I can se the reason is the missing profile from event viewer.

I now understand that creating the company does create the tables, but doesn't populate them, so they're all empty.

Now... what am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to install the demo database and copy the configuration from there somehow?

Thank you in advance

    Hi,

There are two things. One is database data and other is database objects. Do you want to copy data or you are missing with all database objects?

    Hi Bilal,

I'm talking about the table contents, which I guess you might call database data.

I've created the company, which in turn has created all the company tables (which I believe you might call objects), but they are all empty. As a consequence, there are no user profiles and the webpage doesn't load anything, while in the event viewer I see errors referencing no profile data present.

For example, there are no permission sets, so I can't assign permission sets to users with New-NAVServerUserPermissionSet

Means you are missing even basic system table objects and you do not have any objects on your database. Can you open SQL Server and expand the business central database and show which tables you have there.

By the way why you are complicating it for you? Simply install demo database and if you want to implement from scratch, then delete both CRONUS companies and create a new empty company.

As to why I didn't install the demo database, from the deployment guide it wasn't specified that it was necessary and it required a specific instance name, I didn't realise it was recommended to do so.

Can the demo database still be installed afterwards, on a differently named sql instance?

Yes, the demo database can be installed on a new SQL Server Instance or even on the same SQL Server Instance. Just give the details in installation parameters before start installation. If the SQL Server Instance exists DB will be created otherwise system will install it and then create DB on it. See image below:

I'm trying to reinstall everything but I'm receiving a Source file not found error during setup of BC 2021 wave 2.

    \SQLDemoDatabase\CommonAppData\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\180\Database\Demo Database NAV (18-0).bak

    The file is there though.

Is there any way to restore the tables manually?

EDIT: using the repair function it worked instead. Odd. I'll finish the setup and get back to you, thanks again for taking an interest.

Put the DVD installation folder on root of a drive because sometimes the length becomes large and system not able to find the files that inside.

For whatever reason the .bak was deleted but I recovered it from the original download.

I ended up doing what you suggested, reinstalling with the demo database.

Thanks for your help, although if you do have information on how to manually initialise everything (with rapid start or loading xml configurations), I'd like to learn how.

    Cheers.
