Hello,

When I create my PO I need to add a Job No. to the item lines. If a create a warehouse receipt from the PO, only lines that do not have a Job No. are pulled in. If in my PO all the lines have a Job No. I get an error saying /There are no warehouse receipt lines created./

From the Warehouse Receipt page, if my PO has all lines with Job No. assigned. It will not appear as a option when I do prepare -> get source documents.

Is this a setup issue on our end or is it not possible to created warehouse receipts in such instances.

Thank you in advanced.

    Hi,

Lines with Job No. or Drop shipment are filtered in report "Get Source Document" that you run from Warehouse Receipt.

Saurav gave the answer why this is happening.
Also I want to mention, that I don't see any reason, why Purchasing items, you would want to assign it to the Job (now Project).
Items in Jobs (Projects) are only being used, and then You can invoice the customer, and see if the total Job (Project) was in profit or loss.

If You would pile up items for Job, then the cost of items used in Job would be 0 ( When you buy it, it gets assigned to Job and the amount is positive), when You use the item, it gets the same value with opposite sign, making it zero - and You would end up giving Your customers the materials for free :)

You do not need to list the Job No. on the Purchase Line to allocate the inventory to a Job.  You can use the Reservation System to accomplish the same thing AND allow your standard Warehouse Processing.  If using Planning, both the Lot-for-Lot and Order policies will set the reservation automatically.  If using Fixed or Max. Quantity policies, you would have to establish the reservation manually.

The reason the warehousing does not work when a Job No. is on the line, is because the Item is immediately consumed to the Job upon receipt, but the costs don't hit the Job until that line is invoiced.  By using reservations, you allow the Item to be received into Inventory and later consumed to the Job when actually used.

You should discuss these options internally and then with your partner to ensure the best application for your business culture.  If your Job-Linked Items are staged to the Job immediately, having the Job No. on the line is appropriate.  If you warehouse the inventory and later consume to the Job, you should look into the reservation capabilities.
