Changing Text Field in Dexterity

Hi,

Our user would like some text fields changed on the "Purchasing Requisition" form.  For example, instead of the words "Comment ID", they would like it to say "Department Manager".  I have been using Dexterity triggers to change some of the fields, but I can't find a way to change the text of a text field.  Is this possible to do in Dexterity, or do I have to use Modifier to change the text?

Thank you,

Helvi

If you change the string Resource at the Dexterity Level - or even through Modifier, then wherever 'Comment ID' is used would be replaced by 'Department Manager'.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Leslie,

Is there a way to just change the words on the Requisition form only instead of changing the words on all the forms in GP that have it?

If the string resource is changed, will that make upgrades difficult?

Also, I have another dexterity question unrelated to this one.  The user wanted the status drop down list on the req form modified.  It currently has 3 items (new, ordered, canceled).  He wants it to just have new and canceled, so I deleted item 2 (ordered) in the trigger.  When I test and try to choose the 'canceled' item (which is now the second item in the list), it still sees item 2 as 'ordered' because I got the error message "You cannot change the requisition line item to ordered".  Is there a way to change the list, so it sees 'canceled' as the second item?

By the way,  your book "Developing Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Applications" has been a great help to me.  It is easy to follow and understand.  Will you be teaching the live online Dexterity courses this year?

    Thank you,

    Helvi

    Hi,

If you want to restrict it only for that one form, you'll have to do it manually. Changing the drop-down list as you described is a no go. You are running into the problem it creates. Throughout the application, the code is looking for the index on the item. It doesn't care what the words say. Thank you for your kind comments regarding my book. I'm happy to hear it has helped you. The book was directed toward people just getting started with customizing Dynamics GP, I'm glad you acquired it :)

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
