Hello guys ,

I got a requirement which requires workflow to be scheduled based on time and date .This workflow should be run like sometime monthly,weekly,daily etc .So I have used these links to workout this requirement .

But I wanted to know that when a child workflow is fired from main workflow does the child workflow use the same record on which main workflow was fired ?

Also does workflow have any timeout's like the plugin does since I have this workflow which should run monthly sometime even daily or weekly .Will there be any timeout's like workflow stops after 2 months etc.

    Hi,

    You are on the right lines.

    1) A Child workflow can be run on the same record or any record directly related to the current record via a N:1 relationship.

    2) There are no timeouts for a workflow in a wait condition - they can be waiting indefinitely - but there is infinite look detection that will trap a workflow that recursively calls itself more than 8 times in any hour.

    workflow periodically

    1)create global settings [name 'WS'], mentioned next run, let us assume 5/15/2014, 1:00 pm

    2)create workflow, entity is global settings,

    if global setting:global setting equal [WS], then:

        Timeout until Global Setting:Next Run then

             Call the plugin or activities

             Update:Global Setting view properties =>  Next Run  {5 Mintues Before Next Run(Global Setting)}

    process is like

    workflow will check the global setting next run is reached the current time, it reach, workflow will call the plugin or activities and set the next time time +5 minutes
