Inventory Reports

ReportReport

I know how to use SmartLists to check current inventory levels.  However, I would like to be able to run a report to see what inventory was a different points in time.  For example, I'd like to see inventory levels from 2 months ago.  Is there an easy way to do this in GP?  I want to use this to monitor the ebbs and flows of inventory items.  Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

You can use historical inventory trial balance by giving specific period you wanted to print.

    Hi

Interesting you posting this question - it is one I was discussing with one of my clients yesterday.  As Babu notes, the Historical Inventory Trial Balance is really helpful - but you have to run it at the time - and it can take a while to run depending on your inventory volumes.

What my client was after and I think this is what you are after is a point in time stock on hand that you might be able to compare last year with this in some form of dashboard / report.

The only way I can think that is could be done would be to have a custom table that you put a snapshot into each day or similar.  That would give a point in time snapshot, but there are also things that would need to be understood by users of the information.

    - The date would reflect what had been processed in the system at that time.

    - If a transaction was posted later for an earlier date, the stock levels for that earlier date would not change in the snapshot.

That is where the HITB does work well - it will back out transactions to give you a true point in time.

I don't know if anyone else has done this already - let's see if any one else contributes to this.

    Cheers

    Heather

To add my 2cts to what Heather already mentioned.. the only "official" way to achieve this is to run the HITB report (this is not setup by default with GP, has to be initiated at least once and their is a reset script if my memory is correct).

We tried that too, but it was too cumbersome for the end-user and not very fast (we have a pretty large inventory basis).  We ended up writing some custom scripts in SQL to be used within SSRS and generate weekly and monthly snapshots of all our companies inventory status with an scheduled job. The generated report will automatically be saved into a network shared folder in Excel format and our production team picks it up to check the weekly status.

The Month-end report serves as input for a dashboard-like Excel sheet where the inventory level of each company is summarized and 'translated' in a local currency value (CAD) as our various companies are operating in very different currencies (THB, ZAR, EUR, USD, CAD). This helps us keep a control over our global inventory value. Those monthly report are archived for history and kept on file in SharePoint. At Year-end the 12 months gets moved into a historical folder.

Let me know if you're interested by the whole process and I'll see what I can do for you.

Hey guys, what about the historical stock status report?

I know there's lots of issues with this (specifically that it doesn't like the adjust cost utility and it doesn't necessarily tie to the GL) but it is quick and dirty.
