We have created new codes for employee and child and we want to mass change our employees that have employee and child over to the new code on both the payroll and hr side.  Whats the best way to accomplish this

    Hi Larry,

Assuming that you your codes have been set up in HR and are integrated completely with Payroll, you should be able to make a change on the HR Benefit Setup window, and roll down the changes to everyone who has that code.  It will update both the HR and Payroll cards for the employees.

Of course I recommend trying it in a Test database first.  If you don't have one, create a test code and try it out.

What is the change you want to make?

example we a code abc for employee and children.  now that code is abc1.  all the employees that had abc now needs to be on abc1.

it sounds like you are saying instead of creating another code just change the abc to abc1 and everything that was on abc will now be abc1.  Is that correct?

    Hi Larry,

Thanks for clarifying your question.  This is something totally different than what I thought!

You can use the Payroll Code Modifier to change the name of the code. From the HR/PR Area Page, go to -->Utilities-->Payroll-->Payroll Code Modifier.  After your change, verify whether the change was made on the HR side as well as PR. You may have to make some adjustments.

That is what we need, we have one problem. We updated it for the Benefit side and now we want to do it for the deduction side and it says the code already exists but i'm not seeing it.

This is an old post but ran into the situation where the deduction was saying that the code already exists even though it didn't for a deduction in GP2013R2.  It appears to be a bug with deductions if there is a benefit that has the same code.  If you are matching up the codes, you will want to set the deduction code first and then change the benefit code to be the same as this is not an issue when changing benefits to match deductions.
