CRM 2013 Upgrade

Hi- i am planning for CRM 2011 to 2013 upgrade. One thing i wanted to check within the community before i proceed with the upgrade.

My current deployment of 2011 is IFD. Post upgrade, do i need to re-do the entire IFD enabling process? Be it in-place upgrade or 2013 migration with new servers?

Any inputs on this will be appreciated

Regards

Anil

    Hello Anil,

take a good check if everything is on the right requirements level. (also not too new, Server 2012 R2 is not yet supported).

In-Place Upgrade: not advisable, I would always do a migration.

Migration: you'll need to re do the IFD, advantage is that your can set everything up without touching your current CRM2011 situation. And when everything works you'll import your CRM2011 organization.

    Good luck,

Remon- thanks for the inputs. In case i opt for in-place upgrade (against the recommended approach) would i get a pre-configured IFD from my CRM 2011 deployment or i need to re-do it in CRM 2013?

    Anil,

As told, I never do an In-Place upgrade. So no experience there.

I would expect that everything is still configured, BUT I also expect that you would need to go through the CBA and IFD wizard and update the Relying party trust on the ADFS server.

But no guarantee, maybe someone else on the forum can help here?

I would recommend a migration because you can then get everything ready without taking down the live system or stopping the users use the system.

if you upgrade then you have to hope everything works on the day, this to me is very risky approach
