Dynamics RMS Temp File Cleanup

I have a client on Dynamics RMS 2.0 CU5

They reported processing credit cards very slow on several workstations . Their internal IT team reported the program is not cleaning up its temp files.

The application pauses for a period of time, and then the network traffic to the card processor happens. When the network traffic finally occurs, it happens quickly and nothing is blocking it. So the mystery is why is the application pausing for a minute before trying to transmit the data? It is trying to write a temp file during this time period, as shown below.

When I went to the temp directory, there were 65,535 files already there with a file size of zero, going back all the way to 2013

Any ideas on this? Was there a fix issue to release?

Any help is appreciated

Why do you think these are only RMS files? Windows as well as almost all other programs create temp files. Sounds like you need to do some basic maintenance on the machine

I suspect you are running with a FAT32 formatted drive and that is the maximum number of files for a folder

    FAT32

    • Maximum disk size: 2 terabytes
    • Maximum file size: 4 gigabytes
    • Maximum number of files on disk: 268,435,437
    • Maximum number of files in a single folder: 65,534

FWIW, we delete them nightly for our managed services clients and suggest our unmanaged clients do it occasionally by running a Disk Cleanup. Also run a Defrag for non SSD drives monthly.
