How do you link reports?

How do I link reports?  I have set the 1:N relationship (  Bank Deposit: Bank Deposit Line Item) to be parental and Cascade all. Have created 2 reports one for Bank Deposit and one for Bank Deposit Line Item but I cant get the parent report to show up under Bank Deposit Line Item report.

or is it possible to somehow add more info to the header on the report? Now it allows me to group by 3 fields and thats it. Is there a way to add more grouping to a record?

Thank you

It sounds like you want or are using a subreport. I recently struggled with this.

One issue is the naming convention. The other is the order in which they are uploaded.

The main report (Bank Deposit in your case?) should have a subreport area designed into it. The name of the subreport needs to begin with the full name of the main report.

So if you upload DepositReport the subreport can't be named SubreportOfDeposit - it needs to be named DepositReportSubreport or some such. I found trouble even with names like DepositSub. So I guess CRM looks for a complete match of the main report name as one requirement. I'm revising one now, and I find that DepositReportSub2.rdl will not 'connect' to the parent report so apparently the file name needs to match the subreport name.

Upload the main report file and save, then upload the subreport file as a separate report. Only then will the subreport find it's parent. Heartwarming, to be sure.

    Lots of luck,

In addition to making sure that the name of the RDL you upload for the child report is the same as the name referenced in your subreport, make sure that you subreport is not linked to more than one parent report since a subreport can only be linked to a single parent.

    Hope this helps,

Thank you for your reply. I'm in CRM 2015 online and am trying to create reports in the Solution. However, i see no button or area for sub reports. There is a lookup field for Parent record. Where do i find the sub report please?

    Thank you

When you upload the sub report, there is a lookup that is populated for the Parent Report - check that it is populated otherwise the parent report will not find it.

    Elsa,

I'd suggest you download the Quote report for a quick look at a simple report - it has a footer and a sub-report and nothing else.

So in the default solution (customization) choose the Reports COMPONENT - not the entity - to get the list of reports, scroll to Quote and open it. In the Actions menu choose download and you can save the .rdl file where you can examine it.

Here's what it looks like in my SSRS studio:

In a new, blank report, a subreport can be inserted the same way as a text box or other feature. Then you just have to remember all the steps Scott mentioned. I will caution you that using the Browse button to select a subreport FILE will cause the dreaded "subreport cannot be shown" error. Type the name of the file and nothing else and it provided you have the name right it will work.

You can also download subreports and examine them. When I learned programming, I started by modifying "Hello World" to "Hello Choose" <world>. I haven't discussed getting the report or subreport to run from the SSRS studio because it's confusing and you didn't ask. So don't expect the Run Report from the report design studio to work - but if you upload correctly you can run from CRM.

    Lots of luck.
