BC x Shopify (Inventory Sync)

I am trying to sync inventory from Business Central to Shopify.

My process is:

  1. Create items in Shopify

  2. Sync them to Business Central

  3. Create a Purchase Order in Business Central

  4. Post the PO and sync inventory back to Shopify

  5.
  6.

All setup and configuration appears to be correct. However, when syncing inventory, I consistently get the following error in the Shopify logs:

The specified inventory item is not allowed to be adjusted via API.
Example: if the inventory item is a parent bundle.

This error is returned for multiple inventoryItemId entries in the same request.

The issue is that these items are not bundles — they are standard items with no bundle or kit configuration in Shopify or Business Central.

What’s confusing is that I have the exact same setup in my sandbox environment, and inventory sync works normally there without any errors.

Has anyone encountered this issue before, or can point out what might cause Shopify to treat normal items as non-adjustable via the API? Are there any Shopify item settings or Business Central mappings that could trigger this behavior?

This error is related to Shopify , please check shopify setting and your Catalog setting in shopify.
This is not the issue of BC Shopify Connector.

This usually happens when Shopify is not managing the inventory for that variant, even if it looks like a normal item.

From the Shopify side, I’d check:

    inventory_management = "shopify"

    • No fulfillment service attached

    • Variant is stocked at the correct location

    From the Business Central side:

    • Confirm the correct inventoryItemId is mapped

    • Ensure BC is pushing inventory to the right Shopify location

    • Verify the item isn’t linked to a non-adjustable fulfillment setup

Since sandbox works, I’d compare one working item vs one failing item at the variant + location level, it’s typically a small config difference.
