Why does the Currency field become locked on save in the Campaign entity?

I am working on a team that is expanding my company's CRM to include a foreign office, and we are starting to consider the limitations of the currency fields.

I can't seem to find a simple answer as to why the currency field, which defaults to the user preference currency, becomes locked after the record is saved. It makes sense that you would not intend to alter the initial currency to avoid deviations due to budgeting, but is there a technical explanation for why this happens?

Is there a way to remove that 'feature'?

Thanks.

I guess the related question I had is: what if the currency needs to be adjusted after initial creation?

Like in the US office set up a record and turned it over to a UK office to work, in reality, the currency should be updated to GBP from USD, but the field remains locked.

The user currency is translated to base currency. This allows currency conversion between users with various currency profiles. Once a record is created, the displayed currency is then automatically adjusted to reflect the user profile currency configured.

You could remove the default currency fields, and build and format your own custom functionality, but that will most likely have a negative impact on performance, and a rather large effort associated.
