CRM 2015 Server installation fails with 'current user is not a domain user'

I'm installing a CRM 2015 Server in a pretty restricted environment and run the installation as a valid domain user, which is also Admin etc. But still the installation fails with the error message 'the current user is not a domain user' and rolls back the installation...

What could be causing this error message? The user which runs the installation looks fine. We run everything as admin etc. but still no luck.

Any advice/help is appreciated.

The port requirement is documented in msdn.microsoft.com/.../dd979226(v=crm.6).aspx

Bas! You are my hero of the day!

Your answer made me check the Firewall settings on the CRM and SQL servers and I noticed they were both pretty specific configured / hardened. So I tried to disable the firewalls on both servers, but this was prevented by group policies. So as a workaround I created two Firewall rules to allow all TCP and UDP traffic on all ports (incoming AND outgoing) on both servers and enabled those. After those Firewall modifications, I ran the setup again and now it continued!!

So the Firewalls were the cause of my problems. Can't say which ports exactly were required, but I will try to find those and post the answer here for reference.

For now I'm very happy. Thank you so much!

    Hi Maarten,

reading through other topics.. have you verified the following:

do you have access to the sql server machine over the following ports:

TCP: 1433, 1434 (if require Browser Service then only), 445

    UDP: 445

is your installing user member of the domain admins group (you might give it a shot)

Hi Bas! Yes, he's a sysadmin on the server. I manually created a test database without any problems. Also the two T-SQL statements from the trace, create & drop, worked fine... :-(

RE: CRM 2015 Server installation fails with 'current user is not a domain user'

Some extra info (not sure if it's relevant...):

in the Event Log of the SQL server (NB. setup is running on CRM server off course), I see everytime the following error message around the time the setup fails:

FCB::Open failed: Could not open file H:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Data\MSCRM_CONFIG.mdf for file number 0. OS error: 2(The system cannot find the file specified.).

I checked if the installation user has access to this folder, and he does. I even explicitly gave him Full access. When I use the SQL Profiler during setup I see the MSCRM_CONFIG database being created via a T-SQL statement and in the next statement it's being dropped/deleted again. All in the same second. I can execute both T-SQL statements without any problems, so this doesn't seem to be a problem. Something else is causing the rollback...

RE: CRM 2015 Server installation fails with 'current user is not a domain user'

    Hi Maarten,

simple question:  is the user you use also a SQL Server administrator? perhaps your problem is that the current user doen't have access rights to SQL Server.

I've had my share of troubles installing CRM 2015 on a Win2k12r2 combined with SQL 2014  (journeyintocrm.com/.../435).

I'm really curious for the solution of your problem

Yep. He is in the administrator group and I use the 'run as administrator' feature. But I mentioned that already in the original post above...

is the domain user also a member of the Administrators group on the local computer?

are you starting the setup with right click > run as administrator?
