Migrating GP's Item Class to BC

Hi there,

(First of all, thank you very much for looking at my post. Truly appreciate it!)

I am working on data migration from GP to BC. And I am looking at BC's "Item Category", it is much simpler and acting like a grouping/classification purpose, while GP's "Item Class" has many things like Tax, Pricing, Valuation, etc.

So I need to consult with experts like you to shed some light or give me a direction.

(Q1) I have been trying to find some good document on the internet talking about this Item Class or Item Category. If you happen to know a good URL out there, please let me know.

(Q2) I suppose we need to split the "Item Class" data and migrate each portion accordingly to BC?

(Q3) Or, it may not be worth data migration, and we should just re-implement in BC? For example, based on the expected usage of Pricing in the "Item Class", we do NOT migrate the data, and we just re-implement the expected usage in BC for the Pricing.

Thanks

Jamie

Migrating from GP to BC and finding an equivalent column isn't entirely straightforward, but it's not a major hurdle either. In most cases, item classes from GP are mapped to Inventory Posting Groups in BC, since these are also essential for reporting and meet the needs of former GP users.

    Hello,

When migrating from GP to Business Central, you may need to split the "Item Class" data from GP and map each portion to the appropriate fields in Business Central, such as tax, pricing, and valuation. It might also be more efficient to re-implement certain functionalities, like pricing, directly in Business Central rather than migrating them.
