System freezing other employees

Hi Guys,

I've uploaded a video to show what actually happens. On team viewer. My screen is the left freezing, the other employee is converting to an invoice.

Basically when a user is converting EDI files to an invoice, approving or posting, it will freeze everyone else in the company. There are 30 odd of us.

This is causing us a lot of down time, as this freeze could occur anywhere from 10-30 mins. Putting the entire admin team down.

I've spoken to our system administrators and they've basically told us there is no fix? However this surely cannot be the case, as we have used nav for the last 7 years and this issue is only now just occurring.

Looking for any input, that we could try on this matter!!

    Hello,

The video cannot be run on my system (This plug-in isn't supported). Probably that happens to others as well.

    Thanks.

Hi, if there is no problem for a long time before, and the code has not been updated, and it is not because the amount of data has increased, the possibility of window server update is very high. I suggest you submit a Service Request to Microsoft support and let them check the problem.

    Hope this will help.

    Thanks.

Our workload has increased, so the amount of EDI files being converted to an invoice are alot higher.

If this is the cause, what would the solution be?

In my experience there are only about a handful things that can cause a behavior like the one you experience assuming you are running NAV on prem and not BC online.

    • The increased load on your system can have the SQL server chose and execution plan that is not optimized for NAV. That can cause that an index being in place in your database is actually not being used by the SQL server cause f.ex a table scan.
    • You can have a locking issue due to bad code or SQL server doing a locking escalation.
    • You can experience and I/O bottleneck on your storage solution.
    • If your code have recently changed you can have some poor code running in your system.

When those blocking occur you should monitor the locking / blocking situation on your SQL server, look for long running queries and monitor your disk que lenght for the I/O subsystem.

Doing those things require some knowledge about how NAV works on SQL and what spesific things to look at. Maybe your partner can help you investigate some of these things?

Ok, so that's it, yes, if the posting time is very long, the table will be locked in the background, causing other users to be unable to use the system normally.
Can this operation be performed during non-working hours, such as at night? This way you can reduce the number of executions, perhaps once a day but the downside is that you can't get real-time data.
