Lead Sources and Campaign Source on Lead Entity

Upon qualifying a lead can the campaign and lead sources be mapped to both the contact and the opportunity entities? Also, how can a contact belong to multiple campaigns? Similar to campaign management in Salesforce.com? Thx.

Hi KKO, thank you for reaching out.

Below are two links to how the entity mappings work. You can map fields on creation between Leads and Opportunities. The Campaign source is mapped out of the box if you have not customized the generate opportunity process from the lead entity. You can edit the mapping on the opportunity entity N:1 called opportunity_originating_lead, to add the lead source field from the lead.

    Overview

    www.microsoft.com/.../mapping-entity-fields.aspx

    Detailed from TechNet.

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg334512.aspx

To map to a contact that will have to be done with a workflow, on Lead Status change, check if it is "qualified" then update the contact with Lead source from the lead.

However, the relationship to a campaign source is singular from the contact record. The contact can be part of many ongoing campaigns, there is just one that is the source for that contact. Just like for Lead Source there is only 1 source that can get credit. We all know there are many paths to a lead or contact in an organization. This is a business decision your marketing and sales team will have to strategize around. If you change the lead source on a contact because a lead was qualified then you loose the source that brought the contact in the first place. Maybe the contact came through a webinar, but the lead was generated from the follow up call.

I have made changes like this only to turn around after implementing and find out sales and marketing did not agree on how lead source should be managed. Hopefully this was helpful and saves you some rework. Let us know how it works.

    Have a wonderful day!

    KKO..

Can, but again you need to write plugin during lead qualification.

Campaign and Contact relationship as I know there are three types:

    1. Through Campaign Target (Marketing List), which can have multiple Marketing List and Marketing List can link to many contacts

    2. Through Campaign Activities which you have Customer field and as target whom you phone call with or you sent email to who.

    3. Through Campaign response

Campaign response by default has link to Contact or Account.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks
