Track Emails without Attachments

Hi,

Is it possible to track emails within CRM but disregard all attachments?

I've noticed a Maximum File Size setting within System Settings > Email. Is this for Incoming or Outgoing Emails?

My thought was setting this to 1KB may stop any attachments being added. Or would the whole email not be brought over to CRM?

Thanks.

    Hi JD M,

I'm not aware of a way to ignore attachments when tracking emails into CRM.

But you could remove attachments from tracked emails using a tool like:

    crmemailworkflowutilities.codeplex.com

Then you could schedule this to keep it under control.

    Regards,

    Sean

Setting the attachments size to 1 KB would stop any email with an attachment larger than 1 KB from being created in CRM. Keep in mind that the size is after the conversion to base64-format which adds some overhead to the attachment.

If you want to go for a workflow solution as Sean describes, this is an updated version from the CRM EMEA Support Team which should work on CRM 2016:

    blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../deleting-email-attachments-in-dynamics-crm-2016

Or you can utilize advanced find and bulk delete:

    technet.microsoft.com/.../dn683569.aspx

If all else fails, a plugin for the email entity would probably solve all your problems.

Thanks for the suggestion. Good to know.

I tested setting the Maximum File Size to 1KB. It still brought over the email and its attachment. Not entirely sure what purpose that is serving.

Technet reference to the max upload size setting:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../8c947e83-6765-41d9-b4b7-c078a68257eb

I wasn't aware that it also affects notes and web resources.

An app called LiiD for CRM tracks the content of emails without tracking the attachment. The email tracking is automated (emails between you and people whose email addresses you have in your CRM are tracked) so you don't even have to use the set regarding feature.
